The 13th Annual Student Bio Expo was held on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the new University of Washington Husky Union Building. The Expo filled both ballrooms to the brim with students, teachers, mentors, sponsors and hundreds of visitors. We feel very fortunate that we could share this experience with so many people.
If you couldn’t join us, HERE is a list of the winning projects and a few numbers that help capture the Expo:
EXPO BY THE NUMBERS
394: Students who presented at the Expo
313: Projects (several involved groups)
140: Mentors who helped students develop their Expo project
90: Entries in the Art Category
84: Judges who evaluated and interviewed Expo students
56: Institutions that provided judges and/or mentors
30: Participating schools (all from Washington!)
25: Percent of projects that received an award
But there’s only one Expo!
Please feel free to check out the more than 100 videos on the Expo YouTube channel. If you search for “student bio expo2013” some very engaging projects will result.
Yesterday, we awarded the Expo Cup of Excellence to Foster High School in Tukwila. This trophy goes to the school which most embodies the spirit of the Expo. Tim Renz, teacher at Foster High School, wrote this morning:
“My students were so pumped about winning the award that they talked me into letting each of them have possession of it for a day. Eunica (who participated in the Art category) ended up taking it home last night. I haven’t even touched the trophy yet. They wouldn’t let it out of their hands. Eunica was so worried about it getting wet that she covered it with her poster in the garbage bag and let herself get wet on the walk to the bus.”
News of the Student Bio Expo will continue to be updated at nwabr.org.
